ELECTRIC EYES is a delightful YA story that puts a very creative twist on the traditional zombie apocalypse! Lan, his sister Emma, and their parents finally make it back to land after a disastrous family cruise, only to discover that they've been declared dead and their house has been sold. After a series of cryptic interactions with the people around them, they head downtown to their father's workplace: a tech company. Along the way, they discover what has taken place while they were out at sea--can they survive this bizarre, technological/neurological nightmare and save what's left of their city?

Lan is a fantastic hero! He's a smart, compassionate teenager with thought processes that feel accurate to that age group. It's easy to cheer him on as he's trying to fill the leader position he's been relegated to by his companions, knowing he's doing the best he can to save the people he cares about!

Urban settings are always the most anxiety-inducing for me in these situations, since higher populations = more zombies! AJ creates a great environment for our crew of misfits to navigate through, with surprises around every corner. It's an easy story to be curious about, and get invested in: especially with the addition of the lovable little Charlie and the challenges he adds to the plot.

I really enjoyed the style of zombie, and the backstory to their creation. It's very relevant to modern society and technology, giving it a eerily plausible vibe!
