If you're a fan of science, history, the supernatural, and well developed characters, The Eidola Project* (the first book in the series by Bob Herold - book #3 available now) will be right up your alley!
One of my favorite qualities in any book, movie, or show, is strong characters. I need people who are relatable and easy to invest in. I wasn't left wanting with this group! Sarah, Annabelle, Professor James, Edgar, and Nigel are all endearing in their own unique ways as our main players, and even the ones we spend less time with are easy to become attached to. (Unless they're intended to be loathsome -- then you're all too happy to indulge in that as well!)
Bob also does a fantastic job of setting atmosphere every step of the way. From a train car, to a battlefield, to the comfort of someone's home, it's easy to conjure up mental images of the environment in detail.
In addition to horror, science and forensics are topics that really fascinate me, so traveling back in time and experiencing the early development of equipment and techniques that have come so far, was a great aspect of the story! New scientific concepts struggle when it comes to dealing with common societal beliefs, and that's showcased wonderfully here, even without the supernatural aspects included!
Just when you think you know what the greatest challenge facing the team will be, the rug is pulled out from under you. I didn't anticipate the twist the story took, at all! I was so enthralled with the story that I was completely blindsided by the ending, and can't wait to continue reading the rest of the series!
